Role: Laboratory Technician 

POSITION: Full time 


Specific Biologics is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Technician to join our start-up team. The core responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician will be to manage the day-to-day functions of the lab. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in molecular biologybiochemistry or related disciplines.  


  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the lab, such as material ordering, equipment maintenance, laboratory inventories, etc. 
  • Ensure record keeping of laboratory is compliant with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including Material Safety Data Sheet records, training records, chemical inventories, etc. 
  • Maintain and back up electronic laboratory notes and monitor for accurate record keeping by R&D scientists. 
  • Support research and development experiments by cloning, preparing DNA, RNA and protein stockspreparing chemical stocks, conducting routine assays such as genomic extractions, PCRs and other molecular biology techniques. 
  • Assist in tissue culture maintenance as needed. 
  • Assist in other laboratory functions as needed. 
  • Work collaboratively with other internal functional area specialists (e.g. vector development, purification, cell culture, etc.) 
  • Contribute to publications, intellectual property disclosures and patent filings.

  • Intellectual curiosity  desire to ask questions, challenge assumptions and develop unique solutions to challenging problems. Naturally drawn to researching new topics and approaches in literature and other sources. 


  • Education: Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related science discipline. 
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of related experience, preferably in a pharmaceutical or biotech setting. 
  • Technical Skills 
    • Previous experience with laboratory information management systems (e.g. electronic lab notes and inventory management). 
    • Molecular biology methods such as cloning, PCR (including quantitative)DNA RNA isolation and purification, Western Blotting or ELISAs 
    • Protein purification by chromatography (experience with AKTA systems is a plus) 
    • Mammalian cell culture maintenance, including aseptic technique.
